Salem Witchcraft Trials
Before the Salem Witch trials there were many god fearers ad they were in fear that the devil would want to save them.
Two girls were afflicted by a medical term unknown so everyone thought they were witches.
after being accused for ever they started acting like it just to get people to leave them alone
one who was crazy thought that she really was a witch. and she said that there was several other witches looking to destroy the Puritans.
-Witch Hunts started up when this came out.
- If you plead guilty to being a witch you could help them instead of instantly being hung
- In Europe the people who were on trial for Witchcraft would be burned
- the courts would use religious views to kill them
- 19 women died by hung
- others were just killed
- one stoned to death
-Salem was also scared of illnesses, indians a lot of other things
- 127 people were acused for witch craft
- There was only one who plead not guilty and were proved and then time later was re convicted and hung George Washington
-febuary 22,1732 was the day george was born in westmoreland county, Virginia.
- after his dad died he went to live with his half brother lawrence.
- lawrence passed away in 1752 from turberculosis after george had tried to save him.
- george washington created a diary and recorded everything he did.
- george was difeated in the French and Inian war.
- George washinton married martha dandrige custis. she had two children already she was very attractive and rich.
-after he resigned commision .
-George Washington was one of the major things in the American Revolution.
- On christmas night he did a suprise attachk over the deleware river to trenton n.j. in 1776.
- showing great leadership during the revolutionary war, they decided to elect George washington as the president of the United States in 1789
- During his presidents he was careful and knew he needed to build something that would help the future presidents.

- george resigned in march of 1797
- He died there on December 14,1799.

French and Indian War
Was the bloodiest war. Took more lives then the American Revolution. Part of the 7 years war between the french and the British. 1756-1763. The Indians faught on both sides. It brought the treaty of Paris. In May ninth. George Washington is young and fighting for the English. Where he tries to fight the french and gets his butt kicked. But eventually the British win. Proclamation
This states that the British colonies cannot grow into the new territory. England then decides that americans need to pay for the war. The north starts creating new colonies. Navagation Acts
Where designed to protect the English empire. until the war comes along. Then they decide to clamp down and not let trading except from America and England. It brought prices down to a 3rd of what its worth. so we couldn't make money but we had to spend a lot. England couldn't grow tabacco so the colonies could. The colonies could not make clothes and textiles. Even though the acts were enforced the Americans set up a huge black market with the dutch. Making everything a lot more money. the plan
- Virginia was the largest colonies at that time. because of the great farming and ect. so the northern colonies got together and decided to band together with the indians to make a treaty against the south. Benjamin Franklin was one of the representative trying to form a regional government. Each having there own relationship with England.
Everyone had a stronger relationship then the other so Benjamin says lets make three regional governments. each has power over there region to negotiate and build armies. A bonus is if all the Indians know that were bigger it will help us keep the Indians in control our way. Even though Everyone votes against it. IT DOESN"T GO THROUGH! probably because the south was making money illegally. so the people of the north was hurt the most. The sons of Liberty
Formed a group of "peasants" to go against the stamp acts with newspaper printers.
they would threaten to burn the tax collectors house down and cut the heads off...
after getting taxed they rebelled. the Boston massacre
march 5 1770
Five deaths. Four on the spot. six others wounded.
after some angry people came and soldiers joined. Soldier went to the wig makers shop and the apprentice says he didn't pay for it. so they argue and so another soldier comes up to hit the kid and a group of people rush to see whats happening and they run away. so the guy gave Seven soldiers seven guns to protect the other soldier the guns were empty but they had ammunition. well people throw snowballs at the soldiers so they started loading there guns but captain Preston says to stop loading the guns but they ignore the captain. And tuck was a black sailor and he was the first injured by gun shot. he swung the club at one soldier and hit someone. So the soldier purposely shot them. after the soldiers go to court for charges of firing into a unarmed crowd. so the sons of liberty come out in the papers saying that it is a Boston massacre!! Captain Preston was found not guilty. two or three soldiers were later charged for man slaughter. they were put in jail for two days. after shipped back to England.
Every since then if one of the soldiers were put on trial they were able to move the trial to somewhere else like Virginia or England.
Forcing Boston to apologize and quit being radical causing more of a rebellion!! Enlightenment in early America

What who? western philosophy with Thomas Jefferson who influenced john Locke. this stated that man has the right to its property. all men are created equally pursuit of happiness from the Declaration of Independence. Coming to America was a huge thing. Everyone would be happy in there own way. everyone wanted to get away and have there own ideas. Common Sense
Tom Pain is was pretty much a loser in life. Born in England and doesn't do anything shows up in America at the time where America wants to break away from England. He fancies him self an author and protects himself. after putting out his idea on the market it gets read by a lot of people. Caveman wondering around in an island thinking what kind of government they need. so he pretty much puts his opinion in a secret way. His opinion was someone needs to be in charge but if your going to have taxes in a government who should decided what to tax. I think the people should. He believed that they shouldn't pay for the soldiers to intrude. February of 1776 when people start talking about being independent. The newspaper owners agree. they set up a Convention. the very first plan that's presented is that we should tell the king of England that we appreciate him but can you listen to us because we would like to make some changes. Virginia sends some representatives with instructions on voting. Virginia has been instructed to get away from England. The Sons of Liberty in Boston are pretty ticked and revoking there charter so they start to gather guns and amo and hide it.
Lexington and Concord
After word comes that leaders of sons of liberty group to the England. they are hiding out in CONCORD so they marched through Lexington and made a malisha of seventy five men of colonist and seven hundred British soldiers. they have a fight and Paul Revere and some other men take off to warn Concord about the British coming. So the malisha assembles in Lexington on the green in city square. and prevent the British from marching through. there was seventy five brave colonists holding a gun. Some unknown person shot the first shot. None of the British were ruined and Eight of the colonists were killed and eleven were wounded. by the time they arrived in concord they didn't find any supplies at all. so the British turned around and came back. so then on there way back several hundred men came and attacked them and they made the British fall back they kept ambushing the British. and the British are stood in line. not even fighting back. at the end of the day two hundred and seventy three British killed and only ninety four colonists died. Declaration of Independence
during a major conference representing different colonies. Virginia shows up wanting to be independent and some people not. after voting for an independent country the vote was official and pretty much everyone wanted to. John Adams, Ben Franklin, Livingston, Jefferson, Sherman and more were all part of the board. Ben Franklin was a man who wrote the Declaration many times before a final draft. It looks like a letter to the king. England cared about this document and sent soldiers. not afraid of the American colonies but that they'll show all the other colonies that you don't have to be under England. Revolutionaries: people who want to break away. Loyalists: rich people who wanted to continue being loyal to England. the poor people except for Virginia blamed there poor ness on ENGLAND!!
The war starts. Revolutionary war George Washington the leader of the army. General. after choosing some good leaders Benadick Arnold, Gates and more. This war starts off Horrible for the Colonists. Fighting against trained armies. Starting in Boston and ending in New York. George Washington had to sneak out with his army across the river. Then they sneak back and they attack in Trenton.and Win a couple more battles. The British come up with a plan to split americans in half after the British take Philidelpia after taking New York and split George Washington from everyone who wants to help them and conquer one group at a time. And the British starts losing men each group. The Americans are winning in New York and surrounded Philidelphia and forced them to surrender. Valley Forge
Soldiers entered camp in December not having any place to sleep and no food. While they were there they had a man come and help them to train to fight and while they were learning they were freezing the whole time. That is how most of the men died. 1/4 of the men died while they were at Valley Forge. one man states that while he was walking through camp he heard men crying for meat cause they were starving. another man with the perfect army skills and thought them how to fight and so the army became confident. after some men try to run away they capture them and so Washington makes some of there men kill them. you'd kinda have to be as mean. French Support
the french support meant that they sent soldiers and food and a lot of guns and amo. One of the generals came and taught them all how to fight and stuff. French were already pretty mad at England and were losing money. they sent clothing and uniforms. they also sent there Navy to keep the British from getting supplies. yay the colonists WIN!!!!! :) the articles of confederation
articles are statements.
there was thirteen statements about how are government was going to look they made thirteen states and that's were the united states came into play.the question was who was the boss of all thirteen states. in the articles of confederation which were written in 1777 but passed four years later some of the stuff in the articles were the name United States of America, each state retains rights not given to central government, One vote for each state in Congress, the articles can all be altered only by unanimous state agreement. who should pay for the soldiers who fought??? the united states will pay for everything!!! oh great!!! Daniel Shays
After a lot of money is owned a rebellion shows up to burn all of the court house's down. They have no body to stop them because its all the military men so the government creates there own little secret military to stop them. after a tiny incident shays rebellion ran away! so they decided to kill Daniel shay. they do not kill them they hang two men but they let them all go back.
The Constitutional Convention
this is also known as the Philadelphia convention. was one of the most influential part in America's history. In January 1766 they decided to call a convention to fix up the articles of confederation. These people who complained were veterans of the war who went to Philadelphia to complain aka picket. Twelve delicate were chosen to show up. James Madison wanted to get rid of the Articles completely. Held in the Pennsylvania at an important building. Thomas Jefferson who was in France at the time said the delegates were not sure of there abilities. Rhode Island refused to send delegates. The Large State plan or known as the Virginia plan. This plan has support of the large states. May 29, 1787 the members of the lower house would be elected by the people and the members of the upper house would be elected by the upper house. Gave the upper house or Large States more power in voting because they are larger. The executive branch was only to make sure that whatever the legislative says that's what happens. Charles Pikney thought up his own plan but because he didn't write it up the only way we know is from notes another man had taken. The Small states had there own plan. this plan gave everyone one vote. and the congress should have the power to raise taxes. the executive would be elected by congress and there would be more than one president at a time. the executives would serve for one term and they might be able to re elect. Federal laws over rule state laws. The plan was at first rejected by the large states. Hamilton didn't like either plan so he came up with his own which was known as the British plan. his plan was a lot like the British's way of ruling things. It was a lot like a king. So Roger Sherman would make a plan that one house be population and an upper house one vote for state. The large states didn't like it at all. The Compromise was introduced in early July but wasn't welcomed til later. Slavery was another big issue. The south wanted to count slaves to get more votes. so The slaves would be counted as 3/5's of a person. and the same on for the taxing. The Souths threatened to leave the conference. this slave issue would split the country in half. They decided that in twenty years congress could have the power to stop trading of slaves. they finally got the draft of the Declaration and submitted it in September 17, 1787 where it was signed. A bill of rights was finally added and everyone signed it. the declaration was gratified finally by all thirteen states.
Jays Treaty
This treaty was in between England and the United states. United States wanted British to get all of there soldiers out of America. We also wanted the fraud to stop between our trading ships. France and America's relationship was wearing off. After the treaty was passed all the Americans were mad that they had already made a treaty. They had just barely gotten through the Civil War and didn't want to have anything to do with them. England and France are enemies of each other not of america but Each other.this whole treaty was for trade among England. this pretty much ticked the AMERICANS off! the federalist become democratic republicans. Many arguments were started in the streets. There dress was even different. XYZ Affair
this turns UGLY!! Everyone is starting to poor in to America from all over! John Adams makes laws called the Alien Law which states if your in the United States from another country for less then fourteen years or less we can deport you any time we wanted for no reason. The Sedition Acts state this states that if your write anything against the government we can put you in jail. War of 1812
This war was between canada and the u.s. Canada burnt down the white house. this war was fought in the west. There was a certain general who was pretty much named the hero of this little war. This hero was andrew jackson. He became the president of the United States. THis was the last battle that garenteed United States Freedom. National Bank
this act was the united states feederal law that wold insist that the u.s would have papers about there debts. They had to issue bank notes, and ect. THe national banks would be required to make national bonds. this was before the first presidency of the United states even existed. The Wiskey Rebellion
this proclamation was in 1791. Alexander Hamillton placed a tax for 25% for whiskey not tea. It was pretty much two hundred years ago when the western army marched in western pennslyvania. the soldiers arrested 75 men and were shipped back two the east where they were judged. everyone was let go.
Hamillton really wanted this to be leagal. THe farmers who wanted wiskey was not happy with this because they couldn't afford it. THE LUISIANA PURCHASE
the united states wanted to own the port to new orleans but France owned it. They did not want to give it up so they decided to sale it to the UNITED STATEs for 10 thousand million dollars. this land was bought three cents per acre wich makes up half the united states. so pretty much everyone got mad at jefferson for spending the money.

plantations were made big enough to have all there family living there COMPROMISE OF 1820 (Missouri)
they all had two votes in senate but they had votes by population for the house. NULLIFICATION CRISIS
passed terrif stating that if you import something to the united states without living there you have to pay a fee but if you do live here you don't
EDUCATIONAL REFORM
it never existed in the north or the south because they all had there own excuses for why. At first school was just for wealthy people and boys. most of them were private schools. Poor people went to charity school or didn't even go to schools.girls only went to school if they weren't needed at home. like little house on the prairie type. ha ha
WOMAN'S RIGHTS
they wanted the right to vote and to have a word in office and to work and to have equal pay and to have higher education and to be able to serve in the millitarty and for equal in marriage, and religious views.
TEMPERANCE
this law is the against alcohol and at first they started teaching people temperance like don't get drunk. this is a woman's idea. then by the 1820's they believed to never drink alcohol. Carrie nation was a very mean lady with trying to close the all saloons she divorced two men and yeah got crazy.

is where things that company's produce are privately controlled as apposed to the government trying to control them. Labor's Goods and Capitals

11-30-09 Compromise of 1850-
This was a comprimise between the slave states and the free states. Trying to get rid of the conflict between the slave states and the free states. This conflict even hit congress. California now is wanting to come in as a state and starts causing problems. Some of the Main Points in this comprimise would be
- California entered as a free state
- New Mexico and Utah Territories would be able to make their own decission on if their a slave, or a free territories.
-Utah ends up being a slave state
- No buying or saling slaves
The fugitive slave act also had an impact which gave any one who didn't arrest a run away slave has to pay a fine.
Under Ground Railroad- this started before the comprimise of 1850. The underground rail way is a way to sneak the slaves into canada. Canada has no slaves. so some of the slaves decide to take off and try to go. They created a way of getting through by staying at free peoples places that don't want any slaves. Hariot Tubman was one of the most bravest people in the whole under ground railroad. Conductors would lead them to a house, where another conductor would meet them and take them somewhere else. The Pearl Incident- a man finds a ship called the pearl and tries to carry a ton of slaves out at once. They got caught and the slaves get sold further south and the three men who tries to help them get put on trial and one man gets off and the other get fined. Abolitionism- Is the belief that the slaves should be free. This is mainly in the north. In the north they don't see a lot of the problem with slaves until 1850 and if you don't turn in the escape slaves you can end out getting a fine. Bleeding Kansas- this was the territorie the problem people are in missouri. The red necks who are a group of people wearing red scarves around they're necks. People in kansas fight back. its a huge fight against the rednecks and the missiourians. this was the first organized killing over slavery. John Brown- THis man is an abolitionist and kinda crazy! He's the leader of the batalion with his five sons. The following year he went to a town and killed five of the settlers. He is killing slave owners. He wants money to fund an army he can lead. His own army against slaverly Octobere 16, 1859. he goes to the armies arsenal and attacks it to try and get guns. he got caught and was tried and convicted of treason. He's pretty much giving the slaves weapons and saying get your selfs free. He's tried in the south and 1860 Election- was during the time of the civil war. The democratic party against the Republicans who are anti slaverly and poligamy.
the election ends up being between Lincoln and Douglas, Lincoln does not give speeches but Douglas does. Lincoln will not tell people what he wants. Lincoln wins because of the split vote in the north. The people in the north voted for lincoln not the people in the south. November 6, 1860 is the day that lincoln wins. Before Lincoln takes office in the united states the south was being a jerk and pretty much started getting dirty.
Session the south decided to leave the states because of what they thought lincoln would not agree with what they believed.
The Confederat Sates of America Jefferson Davis was made president of these states. This included eleven southern states. Before Lincoln took office the confederats sent out people to try and get other people to join them. The people started to get nervous especially the ones in the south. They started taking over the things that the federets owned. For example it'd be like someone trying to take over hill force base.
The Anaconda Plan
this plan actually was made by lincoln. It was to cutt off all of the south's abilities of trade with the British. This battle actually really worked. Many people would go and sit and eat lunch to watch the battles.
The Civil War
The civil war was a major part of our history. The South was one of the major parts in it because they pushed the north pretty far. Lincoln fires the Union army general because he didn't do anything. So then lincoln hires another and he failed also. They have only had one battle between the south and the north. Lincoln decides the push out a law saying that they will have to fight the war after bringing in a new general Grant. He is so willing to fight. This war is extremely bloody. This war lasts a few years. In 1862 Lincoln decides to free the slaves. Because The south is making their slaves fight without guns. So whenever the north would capture people they would let the slaves go. In december of 1863 Lincoln idea pushes for non slavery.
The Emancipation Act
this claims that any slaves in the north are free. So then the slaves from the south decide to head up north to become free. If any soldiers go up north and follow the laws and stuff they'll be free.
Reconstruction
The nation begins to get reconstruct. this is going to help us as a nation to become stronger. The North wins. This reconstruction policy only lasts two years until congress takes it over. Congress doesn't follow lincoln, Johnson Does follow lincoln after lincoln's death. This reconstruction plan states that they're going to have a country of the united states of america and does not care about individual state rights. Most of the states were un willing. Congress Followed they're states instead of government. Slavery was excused. Each state has to say every slave is free too be able to have they're word in what goes on with country. Jefferson Davis who was the confederat president. Lincoln and Johnson doesn't really care if they dont get done with slavery but congress says to make the states pay for what they did.
Homesteading- Was an act of 1862 that gives lands to adult citenzen for a registration fee, They have to live on it for five years and after given a deed to the land. 1970 it ended 1935 President Franklin Rosevelt with drew public land and named it the nation wide land act. Many people presented the claim and got money for they're land. Oklahoma was a big part of this.
Urban Life- At this time America pretty much was gross. THey didn't have sewers, no schools, pretty much nothing. They would be walking down the street and you could probably step on someones grossness.
Progressives- These people wanted voting to be fair. no bribing. and so they took a lot of the bosses to court.
Imperialism- Monroe Doctorine is when the americans pretty much told England to take care of them selves and that america will take care of the rest of the people.
Spanish American War- This war was for some territory. Cuba they are of spanish culture. They struggle from independence from Spain. The united states sent a battle ship Called THE MAIN to protect cuba. TIl THe Main explodes and it makes america declare war on Spain. Til they signed the treaty of paris. So then Spain gave United States control of Cuba or independence for cuba. we got the phillipines. we also got gwam. We win the war, so we get the terrirtories.

Before the Salem Witch trials there were many god fearers ad they were in fear that the devil would want to save them.
Two girls were afflicted by a medical term unknown so everyone thought they were witches.
after being accused for ever they started acting like it just to get people to leave them alone
one who was crazy thought that she really was a witch. and she said that there was several other witches looking to destroy the Puritans.
-Witch Hunts started up when this came out.
- If you plead guilty to being a witch you could help them instead of instantly being hung
- In Europe the people who were on trial for Witchcraft would be burned
- the courts would use religious views to kill them
- 19 women died by hung
- others were just killed
- one stoned to death
-Salem was also scared of illnesses, indians a lot of other things
- 127 people were acused for witch craft
- There was only one who plead not guilty and were proved and then time later was re convicted and hung
George Washington
-febuary 22,1732 was the day george was born in westmoreland county, Virginia.
- after his dad died he went to live with his half brother lawrence.
- lawrence passed away in 1752 from turberculosis after george had tried to save him.
- george washington created a diary and recorded everything he did.
- george was difeated in the French and Inian war.
- George washinton married martha dandrige custis. she had two children already she was very attractive and rich.
-after he resigned commision .
-George Washington was one of the major things in the American Revolution.
- On christmas night he did a suprise attachk over the deleware river to trenton n.j. in 1776.
- showing great leadership during the revolutionary war, they decided to elect George washington as the president of the United States in 1789
- During his presidents he was careful and knew he needed to build something that would help the future presidents.
- Wanting to avoid all conflict to not have nation divided
- Peace treaty with British was signed
- george resigned in march of 1797
- He died there on December 14,1799.

French and Indian War
Was the bloodiest war. Took more lives then the American Revolution. Part of the 7 years war between the french and the British. 1756-1763. The Indians faught on both sides. It brought the treaty of Paris. In May ninth. George Washington is young and fighting for the English. Where he tries to fight the french and gets his butt kicked. But eventually the British win.
Proclamation
This states that the British colonies cannot grow into the new territory. England then decides that americans need to pay for the war. The north starts creating new colonies.
Navagation Acts
Where designed to protect the English empire. until the war comes along. Then they decide to clamp down and not let trading except from America and England. It brought prices down to a 3rd of what its worth. so we couldn't make money but we had to spend a lot. England couldn't grow tabacco so the colonies could. The colonies could not make clothes and textiles. Even though the acts were enforced the Americans set up a huge black market with the dutch. Making everything a lot more money. Making more money!

the plan
- Virginia was the largest colonies at that time. because of the great farming and ect. so the northern colonies got together and decided to band together with the indians to make a treaty against the south. Benjamin Franklin was one of the representative trying to form a regional government. Each having there own relationship with England.
Everyone had a stronger relationship then the other so Benjamin says lets make three regional governments. each has power over there region to negotiate and build armies. A bonus is if all the Indians know that were bigger it will help us keep the Indians in control our way. Even though Everyone votes against it. IT DOESN"T GO THROUGH! probably because the south was making money illegally. so the people of the north was hurt the most.
The sons of Liberty
Formed a group of "peasants" to go against the stamp acts with newspaper printers.
they would threaten to burn the tax collectors house down and cut the heads off...
after getting taxed they rebelled.
the Boston massacre
march 5 1770
Five deaths. Four on the spot. six others wounded.
after some angry people came and soldiers joined. Soldier went to the wig makers shop and the apprentice says he didn't pay for it. so they argue and so another soldier comes up to hit the kid and a group of people rush to see whats happening and they run away. so the guy gave Seven soldiers seven guns to protect the other soldier the guns were empty but they had ammunition. well people throw snowballs at the soldiers so they started loading there guns but captain Preston says to stop loading the guns but they ignore the captain. And tuck was a black sailor and he was the first injured by gun shot. he swung the club at one soldier and hit someone. So the soldier purposely shot them. after the soldiers go to court for charges of firing into a unarmed crowd. so the sons of liberty come out in the papers saying that it is a Boston massacre!! Captain Preston was found not guilty. two or three soldiers were later charged for man slaughter. they were put in jail for two days. after shipped back to England.
Every since then if one of the soldiers were put on trial they were able to move the trial to somewhere else like Virginia or England.
Forcing Boston to apologize and quit being radical causing more of a rebellion!!
Enlightenment in early America
TheW's: when and where? the mid 1700's and 1800's and mainly in America. But started in Europe.
What who? western philosophy with Thomas Jefferson who influenced john Locke. this stated that man has the right to its property. all men are created equally pursuit of happiness from the Declaration of Independence. Coming to America was a huge thing. Everyone would be happy in there own way. everyone wanted to get away and have there own ideas.
Common Sense
Tom Pain is was pretty much a loser in life. Born in England and doesn't do anything shows up in America at the time where America wants to break away from England. He fancies him self an author and protects himself. after putting out his idea on the market it gets read by a lot of people. Caveman wondering around in an island thinking what kind of government they need. so he pretty much puts his opinion in a secret way. His opinion was someone needs to be in charge but if your going to have taxes in a government who should decided what to tax. I think the people should. He believed that they shouldn't pay for the soldiers to intrude. February of 1776 when people start talking about being independent. The newspaper owners agree. they set up a Convention. the very first plan that's presented is that we should tell the king of England that we appreciate him but can you listen to us because we would like to make some changes. Virginia sends some representatives with instructions on voting. Virginia has been instructed to get away from England. The Sons of Liberty in Boston are pretty ticked and revoking there charter so they start to gather guns and amo and hide it.
Lexington and Concord
After word comes that leaders of sons of liberty group to the England. they are hiding out in CONCORD so they marched through Lexington and made a malisha of seventy five men of colonist and seven hundred British soldiers. they have a fight and Paul Revere and some other men take off to warn Concord about the British coming. So the malisha assembles in Lexington on the green in city square. and prevent the British from marching through. there was seventy five brave colonists holding a gun. Some unknown person shot the first shot. None of the British were ruined and Eight of the colonists were killed and eleven were wounded. by the time they arrived in concord they didn't find any supplies at all. so the British turned around and came back. so then on there way back several hundred men came and attacked them and they made the British fall back they kept ambushing the British. and the British are stood in line. not even fighting back. at the end of the day two hundred and seventy three British killed and only ninety four colonists died.
Declaration of Independence
during a major conference representing different colonies. Virginia shows up wanting to be independent and some people not. after voting for an independent country the vote was official and pretty much everyone wanted to. John Adams, Ben Franklin, Livingston, Jefferson, Sherman and more were all part of the board. Ben Franklin was a man who wrote the Declaration many times before a final draft. It looks like a letter to the king. England cared about this document and sent soldiers. not afraid of the American colonies but that they'll show all the other colonies that you don't have to be under England. Revolutionaries: people who want to break away. Loyalists: rich people who wanted to continue being loyal to England. the poor people except for Virginia blamed there poor ness on ENGLAND!!
The war starts.
Revolutionary war George Washington the leader of the army. General. after choosing some good leaders Benadick Arnold, Gates and more. This war starts off Horrible for the Colonists. Fighting against trained armies. Starting in Boston and ending in New York. George Washington had to sneak out with his army across the river. Then they sneak back and they attack in Trenton.and Win a couple more battles. The British come up with a plan to split americans in half after the British take Philidelpia after taking New York and split George Washington from everyone who wants to help them and conquer one group at a time. And the British starts losing men each group. The Americans are winning in New York and surrounded Philidelphia and forced them to surrender.
Valley Forge
Soldiers entered camp in December not having any place to sleep and no food. While they were there they had a man come and help them to train to fight and while they were learning they were freezing the whole time. That is how most of the men died. 1/4 of the men died while they were at Valley Forge. one man states that while he was walking through camp he heard men crying for meat cause they were starving. another man with the perfect army skills and thought them how to fight and so the army became confident. after some men try to run away they capture them and so Washington makes some of there men kill them. you'd kinda have to be as mean.
French Support
the french support meant that they sent soldiers and food and a lot of guns and amo. One of the generals came and taught them all how to fight and stuff. French were already pretty mad at England and were losing money. they sent clothing and uniforms. they also sent there Navy to keep the British from getting supplies. yay the colonists WIN!!!!! :)
the articles of confederation
articles are statements.
there was thirteen statements about how are government was going to look they made thirteen states and that's were the united states came into play.the question was who was the boss of all thirteen states. in the articles of confederation which were written in 1777 but passed four years later some of the stuff in the articles were the name United States of America, each state retains rights not given to central government, One vote for each state in Congress, the articles can all be altered only by unanimous state agreement. who should pay for the soldiers who fought??? the united states will pay for everything!!! oh great!!!
Daniel Shays
After a lot of money is owned a rebellion shows up to burn all of the court house's down. They have no body to stop them because its all the military men so the government creates there own little secret military to stop them. after a tiny incident shays rebellion ran away! so they decided to kill Daniel shay. they do not kill them they hang two men but they let them all go back.
The Constitutional Convention
this is also known as the Philadelphia convention. was one of the most influential part in America's history. In January 1766 they decided to call a convention to fix up the articles of confederation. These people who complained were veterans of the war who went to Philadelphia to complain aka picket. Twelve delicate were chosen to show up. James Madison wanted to get rid of the Articles completely. Held in the Pennsylvania at an important building. Thomas Jefferson who was in France at the time said the delegates were not sure of there abilities. Rhode Island refused to send delegates. The Large State plan or known as the Virginia plan. This plan has support of the large states. May 29, 1787 the members of the lower house would be elected by the people and the members of the upper house would be elected by the upper house. Gave the upper house or Large States more power in voting because they are larger. The executive branch was only to make sure that whatever the legislative says that's what happens. Charles Pikney thought up his own plan but because he didn't write it up the only way we know is from notes another man had taken. The Small states had there own plan. this plan gave everyone one vote. and the congress should have the power to raise taxes. the executive would be elected by congress and there would be more than one president at a time. the executives would serve for one term and they might be able to re elect. Federal laws over rule state laws. The plan was at first rejected by the large states. Hamilton didn't like either plan so he came up with his own which was known as the British plan. his plan was a lot like the British's way of ruling things. It was a lot like a king. So Roger Sherman would make a plan that one house be population and an upper house one vote for state. The large states didn't like it at all. The Compromise was introduced in early July but wasn't welcomed til later. Slavery was another big issue. The south wanted to count slaves to get more votes. so The slaves would be counted as 3/5's of a person. and the same on for the taxing. The Souths threatened to leave the conference. this slave issue would split the country in half. They decided that in twenty years congress could have the power to stop trading of slaves. they finally got the draft of the Declaration and submitted it in September 17, 1787 where it was signed. A bill of rights was finally added and everyone signed it. the declaration was gratified finally by all thirteen states.
Jays Treaty
This treaty was in between England and the United states. United States wanted British to get all of there soldiers out of America. We also wanted the fraud to stop between our trading ships. France and America's relationship was wearing off. After the treaty was passed all the Americans were mad that they had already made a treaty. They had just barely gotten through the Civil War and didn't want to have anything to do with them. England and France are enemies of each other not of america but Each other.this whole treaty was for trade among England. this pretty much ticked the AMERICANS off! the federalist become democratic republicans. Many arguments were started in the streets. There dress was even different.
XYZ Affair
this turns UGLY!! Everyone is starting to poor in to America from all over! John Adams makes laws called the Alien Law which states if your in the United States from another country for less then fourteen years or less we can deport you any time we wanted for no reason. The Sedition Acts state this states that if your write anything against the government we can put you in jail.
War of 1812
This war was between canada and the u.s. Canada burnt down the white house. this war was fought in the west. There was a certain general who was pretty much named the hero of this little war. This hero was andrew jackson. He became the president of the United States. THis was the last battle that garenteed United States Freedom.
National Bank
this act was the united states feederal law that wold insist that the u.s would have papers about there debts. They had to issue bank notes, and ect. THe national banks would be required to make national bonds. this was before the first presidency of the United states even existed.
The Wiskey Rebellion
this proclamation was in 1791. Alexander Hamillton placed a tax for 25% for whiskey not tea. It was pretty much two hundred years ago when the western army marched in western pennslyvania. the soldiers arrested 75 men and were shipped back two the east where they were judged. everyone was let go.
Hamillton really wanted this to be leagal. THe farmers who wanted wiskey was not happy with this because they couldn't afford it.
THE LUISIANA PURCHASE
the united states wanted to own the port to new orleans but France owned it. They did not want to give it up so they decided to sale it to the UNITED STATEs for 10 thousand million dollars. this land was bought three cents per acre wich makes up half the united states. so pretty much everyone got mad at jefferson for spending the money.

they all had two votes in senate but they had votes by population for the house.
NULLIFICATION CRISIS
passed terrif stating that if you import something to the united states without living there you have to pay a fee but if you do live here you don't
EDUCATIONAL REFORM
it never existed in the north or the south because they all had there own excuses for why. At first school was just for wealthy people and boys. most of them were private schools. Poor people went to charity school or didn't even go to schools.girls only went to school if they weren't needed at home. like little house on the prairie type. ha ha
WOMAN'S RIGHTS
they wanted the right to vote and to have a word in office and to work and to have equal pay and to have higher education and to be able to serve in the millitarty and for equal in marriage, and religious views.
TEMPERANCE
this law is the against alcohol and at first they started teaching people temperance like don't get drunk. this is a woman's idea. then by the 1820's they believed to never drink alcohol. Carrie nation was a very mean lady with trying to close the all saloons she divorced two men and yeah got crazy.

is where things that company's produce are privately controlled as apposed to the government trying to control them. Labor's Goods and Capitals

Compromise of 1850-
This was a comprimise between the slave states and the free states. Trying to get rid of the conflict between the slave states and the free states. This conflict even hit congress. California now is wanting to come in as a state and starts causing problems. Some of the Main Points in this comprimise would be
- California entered as a free state
- New Mexico and Utah Territories would be able to make their own decission on if their a slave, or a free territories.
-Utah ends up being a slave state
- No buying or saling slaves
The fugitive slave act also had an impact which gave any one who didn't arrest a run away slave has to pay a fine.
Under Ground Railroad- this started before the comprimise of 1850. The underground rail way is a way to sneak the slaves into canada. Canada has no slaves. so some of the slaves decide to take off and try to go. They created a way of getting through by staying at free peoples places that don't want any slaves. Hariot Tubman was one of the most bravest people in the whole under ground railroad. Conductors would lead them to a house, where another conductor would meet them and take them somewhere else.
The Pearl Incident- a man finds a ship called the pearl and tries to carry a ton of slaves out at once. They got caught and the slaves get sold further south and the three men who tries to help them get put on trial and one man gets off and the other get fined.
Abolitionism- Is the belief that the slaves should be free. This is mainly in the north. In the north they don't see a lot of the problem with slaves until 1850 and if you don't turn in the escape slaves you can end out getting a fine.
Bleeding Kansas- this was the territorie the problem people are in missouri. The red necks who are a group of people wearing red scarves around they're necks. People in kansas fight back. its a huge fight against the rednecks and the missiourians. this was the first organized killing over slavery.
John Brown- THis man is an abolitionist and kinda crazy! He's the leader of the batalion with his five sons. The following year he went to a town and killed five of the settlers. He is killing slave owners. He wants money to fund an army he can lead. His own army against slaverly Octobere 16, 1859. he goes to the armies arsenal and attacks it to try and get guns. he got caught and was tried and convicted of treason. He's pretty much giving the slaves weapons and saying get your selfs free. He's tried in the south and
1860 Election- was during the time of the civil war. The democratic party against the Republicans who are anti slaverly and poligamy.
the election ends up being between Lincoln and Douglas, Lincoln does not give speeches but Douglas does. Lincoln will not tell people what he wants. Lincoln wins because of the split vote in the north. The people in the north voted for lincoln not the people in the south. November 6, 1860 is the day that lincoln wins. Before Lincoln takes office in the united states the south was being a jerk and pretty much started getting dirty.
Session the south decided to leave the states because of what they thought lincoln would not agree with what they believed.
The Confederat Sates of America Jefferson Davis was made president of these states. This included eleven southern states. Before Lincoln took office the confederats sent out people to try and get other people to join them. The people started to get nervous especially the ones in the south. They started taking over the things that the federets owned. For example it'd be like someone trying to take over hill force base.
The Anaconda Planthis plan actually was made by lincoln. It was to cutt off all of the south's abilities of trade with the British. This battle actually really worked. Many people would go and sit and eat lunch to watch the battles.
The Civil War
The civil war was a major part of our history. The South was one of the major parts in it because they pushed the north pretty far. Lincoln fires the Union army general because he didn't do anything. So then lincoln hires another and he failed also. They have only had one battle between the south and the north. Lincoln decides the push out a law saying that they will have to fight the war after bringing in a new general Grant. He is so willing to fight. This war is extremely bloody. This war lasts a few years. In 1862 Lincoln decides to free the slaves. Because The south is making their slaves fight without guns. So whenever the north would capture people they would let the slaves go. In december of 1863 Lincoln idea pushes for non slavery.
The Emancipation Act
this claims that any slaves in the north are free. So then the slaves from the south decide to head up north to become free. If any soldiers go up north and follow the laws and stuff they'll be free.
Reconstruction
The nation begins to get reconstruct. this is going to help us as a nation to become stronger. The North wins. This reconstruction policy only lasts two years until congress takes it over. Congress doesn't follow lincoln, Johnson Does follow lincoln after lincoln's death. This reconstruction plan states that they're going to have a country of the united states of america and does not care about individual state rights. Most of the states were un willing. Congress Followed they're states instead of government. Slavery was excused. Each state has to say every slave is free too be able to have they're word in what goes on with country. Jefferson Davis who was the confederat president. Lincoln and Johnson doesn't really care if they dont get done with slavery but congress says to make the states pay for what they did.
Homesteading- Was an act of 1862 that gives lands to adult citenzen for a registration fee, They have to live on it for five years and after given a deed to the land. 1970 it ended 1935 President Franklin Rosevelt with drew public land and named it the nation wide land act. Many people presented the claim and got money for they're land. Oklahoma was a big part of this.
Urban Life- At this time America pretty much was gross. THey didn't have sewers, no schools, pretty much nothing. They would be walking down the street and you could probably step on someones grossness.
Progressives- These people wanted voting to be fair. no bribing. and so they took a lot of the bosses to court.
Imperialism- Monroe Doctorine is when the americans pretty much told England to take care of them selves and that america will take care of the rest of the people.
Spanish American War- This war was for some territory. Cuba they are of spanish culture. They struggle from independence from Spain. The united states sent a battle ship Called THE MAIN to protect cuba. TIl THe Main explodes and it makes america declare war on Spain. Til they signed the treaty of paris. So then Spain gave United States control of Cuba or independence for cuba. we got the phillipines. we also got gwam. We win the war, so we get the terrirtories.
